Extraordinary clarity of color and composition is the hallmark of this superb Gendje Caucasian rug from the far reaches of the rugged Master Caucasus range. A richly dyed lazuline blue field, enhanced by extensive abrash (purposeful color striation) is the stage for an incredibly creative assortment of hooked boteh (sprouting seed motifs). A scattering of smaller ornaments, as well as the jewel-like detail imparted to each boteh, evokes the nighttime sky in a constellation accentuated by pinpoints of ivory. Its masterful borders unabashedly present striking inconsistencies of design. This Antique Gendje is a true art-level antique Oriental rug in extraordinarily good, virtually full-pile condition.
