KONAGEND KUBA, Northeast Caucasian
3' 9" x 5' 8"
Late 19th Century
(Connoisseur-Caliber) (“NEW ARRIVAL") A brilliant Chinese red and gracefully arching geometricized arabesques join an extremely dramatic border of high-contrast bird motifs in this exceptional Konagend Kuba rug. A rich polychromatic palette is set off by the potent saturation of the warm red, expertly set off by golden wheat and bright ivory accents. Surprising color shifts occur even within individual motifs, including especially the prominent abrash in interlock motifs of the main border that transition between goldenrod and teal. Intact knotted tassels on the fringe ends strongly suggest this piece was especially well-preserved and highly esteemed by its owners for more than a century. Such an exciting composition with robust contrasts will delight those afficionados who cherish the tribal weaver’s freespirited approach to color. Learn About This Rug Type
