Featuring superlative workmanship and incredibly fine knotting, this resplendent turn of the 20th century classical Persian rug, obviously woven in one of the city’s finest workshop, is in magnificent, full pile condition. Enlivened by lustrous wool, its crisp, lyrical design, faithfully echoing the 16th century Safavid tradition, integrates an astounding amount of detail and myriad hues of color, creating tremendous fluidity in both the field and border. The traditional brick red and blue palette is here interpreted in alluringly soft values of muted brick and a tonal sapphire to azure range. (Featured in catalog Vol. 25, No. 1, p. 24.)

This masterful mid-19th century Oriental carpet possesses palpable visual depth and an emotive subtlety. Uniquely, the cypress tree motif forms the thematic basis for the painstakingly rendered design accented by lavender, pistachio, and turquoise. Continuing this arboreal theme, deciduous trees and blossoming plants are artfully framed within border cartouches, making for a completely original stylistic departure from other antique Persian rugs of its type. This delicately detailed antique Tabriz rug presents one of the oldest Persian floral carpet designs from the 16th century Safavid period. On an abrashed (purposely color shaded) field, a life-like trellis of lush blossoms, including a detailed pomegranate motif, is vibrantly expressed in sublime, glowing hues and contained by an ornate willow tree border.
