Claremont Rug Company is pleased to present our newest addition to the Featured Arrivals collection, a bold and artistic antique Baku Caucasian rug. Woven in the lowlands area near the Caspian Sea at the foot of the towering Caucasus range, this entirely delightful rug absolutely glistens, the result of extremely lustrous wool and deeply saturated naturally dyed colors. Paying homage to the creatures who served and inspired her and her fellow tribespeople, this highly skilled weaver scattered a profusion of animal and bird forms across the rug’s sumptuous sapphire field, each of which is drawn with whimsical differences in line and scale. Throughout, each motif is rendered with individual character and exquisite clarity. Masterfully employed, selective abrash (intentional color striation) proliferates in the lower section, lending subtle compositional weight and dynamism to this extremely vital, collectible tribal rug. Thus piece would make a striking addition to any collection of tribal rugs.
