Claremont Rug Company is pleased to present this unusual addition to our featured arrivals collection, a rare large scale floral Kermanshah runner. Floral design runners such as this one were very seldom produced in the major City weaving centers of Persia, which left the creation of rugs intended for use in secondary spaces to the surrounding villages. The extremely fine craftsmanship apparent in this runner, combined with the artistic and masterfully rendered design signals a great possibility that this piece was woven on commission. Each segment of the intricate pattern occurs only once along the great length of the runner, yet all parts of the design are so well integrated into a harmonious whole that this masterful format is not immediately apparent to the viewer. The sheer variety of vibrant floral motifs is staggering, as is the nuanced jewel-toned palette that animates them. At one point, a single cypress tree gives way to a delightful profusion of delicately flowering bouquets, each blossom crisply rendered and perfectly balanced. The rare pistachio green tone used throughout helps to unify the various sections of the field. This runner is a masterfully done feast for the eyes and would be a beautiful showpiece in any home or collection of antique Persian rugs.
