(Connoisseur-Caliber) This inventive small rug epitomizes the Caucasian tradition’s use of symbols and color in deceptively simple presentations that are, at the same time, mesmerizing, impactful works of art. Using alternating rows of a lime green and fire-colored stepped cruciform motif, the resulting pattern reads both horizontally and diagonally. A dynamism is captured in the arrangement, augmented by the shape within each symbol that morphs between a naively drawn star and a butterfly. Enigmatic symbolic language, like in this brilliant Caucasian gem that leaves interpretation to the viewer, is a big part of the allure of this artform. Throughout, subtle abrash color striation lends continual movement and depth.
