(Connoisseur-Caliber)
("New Arrivals Gallery") This nearly 150-year-old “little honey” of a tribal rug demonstrates the easy connection the Kazak weavers of the 19th century had to their spontaneous nature. Humble in size and craft, this gem’s spirit and artistic maturity are undeniably expressed, exemplified by the offsetting of the Wheel of Life symbol below its center point. A painterly horizon is exquisitely drawn from the natural blue striations created in the dyeing process. Above it, blossom-like stars, situated with an impromptu sense of space, dot the “sky,” their differing gold and ivory notches adroitly, sweetly amplifying the overall evocative impact of the piece. The two outer “Ocean Wave” and “Ram’s Horns” Bordjalou borders are whimsically executed, as is the much rarer “Running Dog” inner border.
