(High-Collectible-Plus) This ingeniously conceived Caucasian Lesghi is an unusually early example with inventively combined cooler hues and esoteric symbols, illustrating an aesthetically unique cultural package distilled over the generations in a woven work of art. A panoply of coveted collector attributes is present in this inspired piece, at once profoundly archetypal and strikingly modern. It is emblazoned by three pixellated star motifs that have become the beloved emblem of the Lesghi people. Occupying the recesses around the medallions are a delightful assortment of geometrically transformed blossoms, including round and rectangular polygons alongside endearing fan-shaped carnations. The time-mellowed colors are exquisite and used with great dexterity and virtuoso eye. This palette still shimmers with a gentle intensity that is only possible through 19th-century mountain wool quality. It is in remarkable condition after nearly two centuries of age and a stellar find for aficionadoes of Lesghi rugs who think they have seen them all.
