(High-Collectible-Plus) (One of 70 "Best-of-Their-Type Rugs" Sold in 2025) This piece is a much earlier example of the vertical column of hexagonal diamonds template that originated in the Shirvan district and was reinterpreted throughout the 19th century. The rich, orderly display of multitudinous symbols became very popular in the enlarging Oriental carpet market. Particularly, the ivory outside border and the use of plumed bird figures within the medallions are signs of its antecedent roots. This example shines with a virtuoso fineness of weave and a masterful drawing of the weaver’s highly unique and personal presentation of endearing tribal motifs. A trio of stately medallions presents a microcosmic mythical story within each hexagon, where a glorious folkloric bird with regal plumage basks in the center. Pairs of these winged motifs are also on the outside looking in from the surrounding deep blue field. This folkloric thematic motif delightfully unifies the dazzling cosmos of finely pixellated blossoms filling every nook and cranny. The wide-ranging, sparkling-jewel palette is equally impactful, infusing every diminutive device with its own saturated energy and unique character. Another immensely rare and exciting feature appears in the outer ivory border, where a chain of enigmatic devices flash in diverse hues.
