Later iterations of this style confined its signature 12-prong motif to straight rows and repetitious spacing. Here skillfully created compression and expansion are on lively display augmented by constant evidence of extemporaneous inspiration. A scattering of weavers’ comb icons along with other small devices throughout the midnight indigo field add to the fun. Sustaining this art rug’s sense of movement, a palette of carnelian, burnished gold, peacock blue, lavender, and sparing use of a rare malachite green achieve hypnotic rhythmic contrasts.
