(Connoisseur-Caliber)
("New Arrivals Gallery") A splendidly animated, early work from the nomadic Kazak repertoire, this piece has all the characteristics of a rug woven for personal use within a family or the community at large. Three dodecagon medallions ascend the narrow field, dynamically alternating between ivory and crimson. Bookending this trio of emblems are enigmatic panels in rich shades of golden saffron, madder red, and umber with thought-provoking designs within. Throughout, the exotic 19th-century color is subtly charged by deft color shifts. Spontaneous, individually drawn 'C' shaped glyphs line the vertical edges of the inner minor band decorated with what appear to be chained amphorae. Charming sprouting boteh forms spontaneously arise in the lower half of the deep teal field, adding the unique individuality desired in tribal antique rugs. This precursor to Western abstract art has medium pile with minor areas of expertly executed restoration.
