(Connoisseur-Caliber)
Exemplifying the height of Caucasian artistic freedom and dexterity is this nomadic long rug offering a departure from traditional regional motifs and an overall new combination of elements, . An innovative set of clearly drawn emblems repeats four times along the constantly striating, beautiful azure tones in the field. Here, an intriguing pattern contains stars within squares followed by truncated flower heads where only the bottom half remains, then an originally constructed diamond with notched horizontal pendants, and a final row of half flower heads. The main border displays the wide palette of colors found throughout this piece and an ancient stepped symbol, most often seen on kilim rugs. The delicately drawn crab pattern in the innermost, ivory-based guard stripe is a nod to traditional Karabagh design.
