("New Arrivals Gallery") The Lesghi Star motif has seen numerous iterations woven in villages that in some period were within the boundaries of Lesghistan. It is one of the most compelling designs in the Caucasian lexicon and inspires weavers from different regions to portray it. This striking rug associates with the design pool of Maraza, a district in the eastern part of Shirvan, displaying star shapes more horizontal than square. Three deep crimson stars form the major pattern; within each is Wheels of Life that also appear in pairs outside the triple medallion axis. “S” markings or Zoroastrian energy motifs are everywhere. The evocative color transition from Caspian blue to a rich moss green in the field visually augments the power of the main symbol. Its mind-boggling craftsmanship achieves a breathtaking clarity and precision that is deftly utilized in the constantly changing detailing of the tiny diamond motifs in field and border.
