(High-Collectible-Plus) (One of 70 "Best-of-Their-Type Rugs" Sold in 2025) An early, accomplished example of one of the most widely sought-after sub-groups of 19th-century Caucasian rugs, specimens of the “Black Marasali” prayer rug are exceedingly scarcely found rug style in the 21st century. Its prayer niche format filled with a particular boteh design of repeated radiating boteh silhouetted on a deepest midnight indigo field must pluck some universal chord as it is beloved by collectors worldwide. (Thus, its scarcity.) This stellar piece presents a congregation of flaming seed forms massed together beneath an ivory niche, creating a dazzling visage, its allover pattern joined by elemental 'Trees of Life' along the serrated vertical edges of the field. In the upper portion, free-floating geometric ornaments appear alongside these 'Seed of Life' motifs, with tiny diamond pixelations appearing above and within the prayer arch. This rare piece triumphantly preserves the technical and soaring aesthetic brilliance of the “flaming boteh” style.
