This vibrant, extremely well-balanced 19th century Caucasian Kazak antique rug is a tour de force of tribal rug weaving. Its naturally dyed colors are incredibly saturated, particularly the carnelian red of the field and the rich apple green used throughout. Whimsy, prized in Caucasian carpet weavings, is displayed here in the intentional variety among of size, shape and spacing of the "Memling Gul" medallions and the minute animal forms. Three dissimilar borders frame the field of this folk art rug, highlighted by the clear ivory main border with its beautifully rendered stylized dragon design. Happily, the collectible Caucasian Kazak condition is excellent.
