("One of “60 Best-of-Their-Type Rugs Sold in 2023") Prodigiously charming and in an exceedingly rare small area size, this outlier Caucasian Seichur Kuba captivates the viewer with its inspired composition that reveals a very personal and artfully profound rug. This exceptionally seldom-seen iteration presents a field pattern of rosette-centered diamonds backed by St. Andrew’s cruciforms with abstract, geometrized ivory palmettes extending like pendants in all directions. Tucked between these design constellations are dazzling top-knotted technicolor boteh (“Seeds of Life”) that are curiously only found in the upper two thirds of the umber hued field. Dramatic as well as gentle abrash tonal shifts enhance this endearing piece with tremendous dimensionality and movement, contributing to endless visual interest. The outer ivory border, with its globular rosettes and budding wire-thin vinery, proves an effective counterpoint to the spontaneous discontinuity that occurs along the signature Seichur rose-on-carmine inner band to brilliantly frame the striking interior world.
