(Connoisseur-Caliber) (“NEW ACQUISITION")Caucasian “Blossom” Shirvan rugs were unusually seldom produced and are ardently coveted among 19th century tribal weavings. Such desirability is many times compounded in this deeply memorable piece. It is gemlike in every respect: in its jewel colors, sharply faceted geometry, and exceptionally crisp, sparkling clarity of design. The vivid sapphire blue ground is subtly enriched by dexterous abrash striation, creating a sense of depth over which the elemental blossom latticework appears to levitate. Ruby red, ivory, jade green and gold are intensely energetic as they interact in concert to create a profoundly balanced overall impression, each spacious motif set with order and precision.
