(High-Collectible-Plus) (One of 70 "Best-of-Their-Type Rugs" Sold in 2025) The best rugs once woven in Shirvan offer an almost endless variety of patterns and colorways, where no two are exactly alike, and each presents something visually unique to be experienced. Here the simplified central diamonds point to the advanced age of this piece. Later versions became much more elaborate, where here the tribal directness shines through, a wholly individual celebration in rarely found short runner dimensions. A column of distinctive diamonds is like stepping stones along a magical path, sparkling in ever-switching chryselephantine pairs in shades of emerald, vermilion, burnished gold and ivory. Its narrow deep sapphire blue field shimmers with an inner luminescence through purposeful ‘abrash’ striations. Endearing individualized flowering plants adorn the vertical edges of the field, each with personalized improvisations of form, reflecting the triumphant artistry of its sensitive weaver. Numerous inclusions of spontaneous diamonds, quintets of squares as elemental blossoms, and other eccentric forms fill the spaces between.
