(High-Decorative) This 150-year-old Shirvan is a showpiece of inspired Caucasian artistry. Grandly scaled main borders of powerful stepped diamonds surround a diminutive field of latticework and ‘sprig and flower’ design. The juxtaposition of the chevron secondary border with this main border, another pair of secondary borders and several tiny guard stripes makes a dynamic, multilayered contrast with the field. Everywhere across the composition, there is a charming sense of movement due to the gentle wavering lines. Great imagination is shown in the many variations of the floral bouquets embedded throughout the lattice.
