(High-Collectible)
("One of “60 Best-of-Their-Type Rugs Sold in 2022") Like a microcosm of the Caucasian tribal socio-cultural mindscape distilled into one rug, this marvelous rug demonstrates the unfettered, free-flowing creative impulses that Shirvan collectors crave yet rarely see these days. Prismatic, individualized medallions house delightfully varied motifs seemingly forming and recombining as though in a crucible creating a sense of movement and powerful artistic impact. Some of the most unusual graphics are near the top medallion, evocative of the Masonic square and compass, and a balance measuring scale. Amphorae, mammals, and birds take on a totemic transmogrification while other one-of-a-kind designs fill the intervening spaces with a flurry of activity. The ivory "Leaf and Calyx" main border continually changes with colorful diamond clusters interspersed within.
