(High-Collectible)
("One of “60 Best-of-Their-Type Rugs Sold in 2022") To our knowledge, there is no template for this rug design from among the diverse sub-styles under the Shirvan canopy. Its combination of exotic colors and sense of visual dimension vies for our attention with the entirely unique centerpiece and its seven radiating palmettes. Nothing is familiar here, and yet everything is evocative. At over 170 years of age, this breathtaking piece brilliantly combines spontaneous imagery while maintaining a master-planned composition. The central “medallion” and finials, loosely aligned to Gupba endpoints, contain surprising geometric abstractions. Novel floating devices are arranged in measured columns in the abrash textured sea-green field. This one-in-the-world piece is clearly the product of a tremendously skilled weaver at the height of her art.
