(Connoisseur-Caliber)
("New Arrivals Gallery") Shirvan tribal rugs have long been prized for their inventiveness and artistic spontaneity, married with a fine weave and seductive, richly dyed colors. In this dazzling piece, the floating flowerhead pattern is arranged like an orchestra of nature, inducing a sublime aesthetic experience. The weaver’s visual juxtaposition between more rounded faceted blossoms and the spiky “snowflake” type was a virtuoso graphic design decision when lesser allover-patterned Caucasian rugs often use similarly shaped motifs. With a luminous dark royal blue as a background, this configuration glows with cheer and positive energy. Interstitially placed latch-hook devices, chevrons, and directional arrows seemingly drift behind the larger blooms, creating an artfully layered dimensional effect. Rounded rosettes circumambulate the center in an orderly fashion, except for a cheeky interruption in the upper right corner. These often humorous, improvised incidentals are not errors but purposefully placed by the weaver and prized by collectors who value authenticity. Its even medium pile shines with the rich lanolin content found in the sheep’s wool used in this rug’s construction from the surrounding mountainous areas.
