(Connoisseur-Caliber) ("New Arrivals Gallery") An ecstatic expression of Caucasian tribal energy and a tradition of weaving prowess, this piece exhibits the design technically known as "Chelaberd Karabagh.” Rugs featuring these iconic sunburst medallions became known to the early Western market as ‘Eagle Kazaks,’ and the name has stuck. Here, a richly hued madder ground brings great animation to the enigmatic totemic motifs, while exuberant burnished gold and ivory tones are combined with delft blue and highly prized bottle green, to striking effect, beautifully textured by a soft abrash technique. In an interesting palette twist, notes of rarely seen eggplant and mocha are introduced sparingly to the composition. The extremely evocative Kufic border motif is rarely used in this style, imbuing this piece with tremendous novelty and intrigue. Eagle Kazaks are always eagerly sought after for their powerful visage, and this singular 140-year-old representative offers irresistible charm and superb condition.
