(High-Collectible)
This deeply engaging, very early example of the Caucasian Kazak high mountain weaving tradition was made in the village of Fachralo, and offers a stunning ensemble of tribal symbology that together creates a powerful ambiance. A trio of enigmatic medallions along a central vertical axis predates the later 3-medallion version that eschewed the very freeform drawing we see here, which includes a drastic shift of artistic intention as the lower borders morph to a much bolder and expressive design. The mesmerizing medallions, equally captivating border, and superb color palette preciously convey the aliveness of its nomadic weaver. This two-centuries-old piece boasts excellent condition for its age, its heavy pile imbuing the carpet with a ruggedness that is transporting.
