Twitter Facebook Pinterest(High-Collectible) ("The California Collection") The town of Kuba was a collection point for rugs woven by nearby tribespeople due to its location on the Baku-Daghestan road. This situation led to intriguingly novel designs and experimentation that allowed freer expression of the weaving artists in its hinterland. The eye is delighted by a clearly drawn and organized ‘mille fleur’ sprig and flower pattern that pirouettes across the cinnabar hued field, each seeming to curtsey in the process. A visual banquet of vivid tremendously unusual color tones are brilliantly contrasted and harmonized to one another to rapturous effect. Framed by a series of narrow bands in exquisite proportions, this rug appears ready to happily join the party! Nearly square dimensions and superb condition, due to slow-wearing high mountain wool, contribute to the overall rarity of this piece.
