(High-Collectible)
("New Arrivals Gallery") Caucasian Lesghi rugs are intantly recognizable by the iconic star motifs that proudly occupy their weavings like emblems for an entire tribal people. An enchanting field design presents five ascending Lesghi medallions in undyed ivory that glisten against the burnt carnelian ground. Each is bedecked by tiny S-shaped cloudband devices to represent the potent celestial energies necessary for life on this planet. A clever scattering of motifs in the spaces between are drawn from both natural and semiotic sources, blending the twin inspirations of tribal weavers deeply connected to their community and environment. As if the column of giant stars and smaller-scale companions were not enough a minor ivory border is adorned by even more 8-point stars and minuscule triangular amulets. Stellar indeed! The colors of this diverse palette are still bold and sonorous after approximately 175 years with rich saffron golds, Tyrian purple, and rarely seen moss greens of primary note. Its diminutive size makes this highly collectible piece a prime candidate not only as a rug, but as a wall hanging or used under glass on a desk or table top.
