(Connoisseur-Caliber)
Intricately balanced graphic artistry defines this collectible antique Caucasian Shirvan, bringing a vigorous intensity to this 19th-century tribal rug's ancient motifs. Distinctively stylized boteh forms delight the eye with their festive patterning and crisp outlining with hexagonal compartments created by luminous azure lattice. In the upper corners, two curious figures gaze at two elemental "Trees of Life" while standing calmly among the enormous seeds. Near the bottom, along the vertical edge of the field, pairs of circular motifs seem to have been separated from their compatriots in the dark umber inner border. A successive series of ornate bands are an elaborate and highly successful frame for the field pattern. A spectacular palette of well-saturated natural colors and inspired drawing give this unique tribal weaving an intense presence and a magnetic, highly individualized personality. Heavier pile further enhances its overall charm to the connoisseur.
