(Connoisseur-Caliber)
This ingeniously designed Daghestan reflects very skillful and ingenious handling of the traditional honeycomb latticework beloved by collectors of antique lowland Caucasian rugs. Radiant, aged blues, glowing auburn tones, clear yellows, and accents in guava fill the chevron-based flower motif in unending color combinations. The saw-toothed lattice, usually a dominant feature of this style, here does not form a rigid grid, but seems to float with edges unconnected, deftly increasing its sense of animation. The field is full of idiosyncratic asymmetries - don't miss the constantly changing sprinkling of tiny diamonds and butterfly-shaped rosettes occurring along the rug's margins.
