(Connoisseur-Caliber)
("New Arrivals Gallery") At the very significant age of approximately 170 years, this artfully executed Caucasian Daghestan rug offers attributes that collectors look for and are only possible to find in very old antique rugs. Its particularly difficult-to-dye dark spruce green, madder red, and crisp marine blue glow softly from the passage of more than one and a half centuries. Even the ivory field has changed, becoming a subtle parchment tone as the lanolin oils rise to the surface and age. Very old tribal rugs are often the most personal as cultural influences were few. This enigmatic tribal antique carpet’s repetitive rows of tulip-like flowers quietly hide a secondary diagonal design, quite evident when hung vertically. A very fine weave assists the tremendous clarity of each motif in this alluring 19th century tribal carpet.
