(Connoisseur-Caliber) ("New Arrivals Gallery") This dazzling rug from the high mountain village of Gendje presents an original combination of elements while using traditional patterning to express an inspiring personal vision. Its traditional diagonally striped field is emblazoned with a legion of eight-pointed “Stars of Wisdom,” which adds immense visual intrigue to every angled band. A constant interplay of richly brewed hues achieves a seemingly effortless harmony, shifting from firebrick red, denim blue, jungle green, burnished gold, and cobalt with dexterous ease. For obvious reasons, the stylized pattern of hexagonal rosettes in the main border is a Gendje favorite. In this mesmerizing archetypal piece, each subtly changes shape and proximity from one another in their frame, with three different ornament types found in between, demonstrating the unaffected artistry and sense of spontaneity this confident weaver was capable of. Wonderfully preserved with the heavier pile, this jubilant tribal expression of joie de vivre is in a versatile size that could be accommodated in umpteen bland areas around the home or placed on the wall for an uplifting vertical visual treat.
