Famous for their chromatic celebration, antique rugs woven in the Karabagh region are also known for their seemingly infinite tonal combinations. Each saturated color, including rare shades of green and Tyrian purple, imbues this very early tribal rug with tremendous presence through its masterful juxtapositions of hue. A structured latticework of honeycomb compartments filled with geometricised rosettes captures this joyous expressiveness. This uniique motif, borrowed from the Far East, replaces the more often-found angular palmettes. In the magical main border, an excedingly minimalistic repeated dragon symbol on a rare midnight ground is spontaneously sprinkled with diamonds. Glowing with patina, this virtuoso tribal weaving emanates a profound sense of startling beauty along with its depiction of the tribal mind's cosmic vision of an underlying ordered multiplicity.
