(High-Collectible-Plus) (One of 70 "Best-of-Their-Type Rugs" Sold in 2025) Perpedil is a small tribal weaving village situated near Kuba, within the broader Caucasian regional context. Historically, each district embraced its own specific pattern, much like a coat of arms or flag, but over time, the borrowing and adapting of others' motifs inevitably occurred. Perpedil weavers held fast to their totemic calling card with far less influence from their neighbors. The potent 'Ram’s Horn' motif, symbolizing strength, fertility, and vitality, is most often coupled with a distinctively stylized “bird," along with a finely etched Kufic border, which remained their standard. This extraordinarily vibrant piece uses three pairs of horns facing inward from the edges of the field, while four figural horns stand along the center line. The “birds” are depicted as quadrupeds among a festive array of diminutive ornaments representing charms and geometric natural forms. The masterful use of selectively warm, saturated natural dyes and their virtuoso application upon a rarely encountered ivory ground exudes an uplifting kinetic energy.
