(High-Collectible)
("The California Collection") Ivory ground Perpedils are by far the most rarely encountered: red or blue grounds are much more typical in this unmistakable and prized tribal weaving style. This exceptionally early piece expertly choreographed pattern brings together a sophisticated assemblage of fascinating symbolic tribal motifs from across the Caucasus region. In this graphic treat, a woven menagerie of abstracted bird forms, sunburst blossoms, “hashtags,” tiny cloudbands, hourglasses, and valiant ram's horn motifs harmoniously interact in what seems like a gathering of old friends. All are engaged in a chromatic chorus of sage green, cerulean, cinnabar, persimmon, ivory, and yellow ochre. A precisely drawn Kufic design of bracketed Far East inspired rosettes in the main border enclose the field adding to the tremendous sense of balance along with unique pairings of secondary bands running alongside.
