(Museum-Quality) (One of 70 "Best-of-Their-Type Rugs" Sold in 2025) The rugged terrain of the Caucasus Mountains and the influence of numerous cultures, including Persian and Turkish, have contributed to the development of the unique and captivating designs that characterize Kazak weavings. The origins of 'Star Kazak' patterns, such as the one seen here, is shrouded by the mists of time. This truly astonishing piece displays one full and two partial eight-pointed “Stars of Wisdom” in the central column, set in a lustrous cobalt blue, between a pair of lively rufescent diamonds. Star emblems appear in successive islands positioned on the parchment ground. The Tyrian purple dye used for the plum tones testifies to the expense and care invested in this ancient and powerful pattern. Charming animal guardians and a single human form in the upper left appear to be traversing a labyrinth, filled with precious jewels. Overall, an unbelievable sheen emanates from the surface due to the world-class silky wool containing elevated amounts of lanolin due to the robust ‘fat-tailed’ sheep and their yearly pastoral migrations.
