(High-Collectible)
Another masterful piece purchased from the collectors who held it for nearly a half-century is this incredibly emotive representative of the Gendje diagonal stripe field design. It offers great fluidity of line, the deeply harmonious combination of a bounty of breathtaking colors and marvelous condition at over one-and-one-half centuries old. Demonstrating that tribal rugs can be at once extremely celebrative and tremendously sophisticated, its weaver potently created the visual image of a field of spring blossoms in which each wildflower is distinct in its form, colors and placement. Don’t miss the many times in which she whimsically added novel motifs at both ends of the stripes. Her decision to frame this sloping meadow with a spaciously ornamented main border in a dazzling array of exotic hues, including extremely rare Tyrian purple, are the final touches that make this a tour de force Caucasian rug.
