(Connoisseur-Caliber)
("New Arrivals Gallery") Reflecting the powerful iconography that fascinates many art carpet collectors, this diminutive 19th century rug from Shirvan subgroup is enthralling in its bold candor. Latch hook medallions known as the “Wheel of Life” motif ascend its deftly striated soft red field that is strikingly contained by an equally vital chalice-and-oak-leaf main border. This energetic 19th century tribal rug offers outstanding condition, expert use of abrash in its carnelian and chocolate brown tones, and a beguiling artistic naivete. Note the single four-legged animal prominently displayed between star emblems at the top of the reserve.
