(Connoisseur-Caliber)
Abounding with graphic, creative energy, this highly ingenious specimen presents the elongated field that is the hallmark design element of the distinguished rugs woven in the village of Talish. This quite rare piece displays two columns of square tiles, each containing the famous Memling Gul design most often seen in Moghan weavings. Durable primary colors with precious shades of emerald green are juxtaposed with great fluency and have retained their potency over long years. Further elevating the artistry of this masterful mid-19th century rug is the striking contrast of the sparsely ornamented ivory border of finely sculpted rosettes in glowing colors alternating with groupings of squared florets. The parallel minor bands are studies in the spontaneous expression of hue and pattern. This exceptionally early masterpiece remains in good condition. for moderate floor use at over 170 years of age.
