EAGLE KAZAK (Chelaberd Karabagh), Southern Central Caucasian
4' 9" x 7' 0" Circa 1900 Price: $12,500
(High-Decorative)
Offering one of the most illustrious Caucasian rug designs, this Eagle presents an alternate, highly sought-after treatment of this beloved sub-style. Here a single radiating sunburst medallion at the center axis is enclosed by pairs of dragon-like semi-mandalas, with interior and exterior “scales” arching at the top and bottom of the field, evoking a particularly ancient symbology. Warm terracotta to brick red hues extends into the main border, ideally emphasizing the antique ivory wool of the rug’s key features. This style of Eagle is quite seldom-seen and is faithfully captured here in this virtually 125-year-old representative woven on the higher slopes of the Caucasus range. It remains in superb condition with very good pile overall.
