(Connoisseur-Caliber) This iconic Caucasian Karabagh tribal rug provides a visceral, deeply affective impact that is entirely undiminished by the passage of more than 140 years of age. The warm cinnabar red field is enhanced by prized accents of cornflower blue and a center medallion completely filled with rare jade green in a seldom seen profusion. The main border is incredibly elemental, robustly drawn in striking contrast to the more intricate field activity. This border is so stylized that it appears almost zoomorphic: serpentine dragon devices and enigmatic bird feet hint at inspiration from a creatively combined variety of heavily deconstructed animal motifs. The field is dominated by a trio of elemental sixteen-sided medallions in which potent ram’s horns devices (a tribal symbol of fertility) are prominently placed. The rug is very well preserved in medium pile condition. Learn About This Rug Type
