(High-Collectible)
("New Arrivals Gallery") This enigmatic, graphically stunning Caucasian rug is an extremely rare presentation of a pattern traditionally known from flat-woven Soumak kilims that is well-loved by many collectors. Its rich carnelian reserve is the backdrop for three fascinating faceted primary medallions, each containing a cosmos of geometric motifs that are symbolically charged. Scholars have suggested that both the small 'S' or 'Z' forms and specific displays of latch hooks represent the vapor cloud created by the Celestial Dragon concept from the Far East. Part of this tribal textile's great appeal is the crystal clear definition bestowed upon the ancient design, exemplified by the radical, disarticulated "flowers" housed in octagonal lozenge cartouches. The dyers who created the sumptuous hues used in the palette were at the top of their game. This lifetime-skilled weaver used only colors with a deep jewel tone quality, combined with those of exquisite delicacy and most challenging to achieve. The mesmerizing series of borders features a kaleidoscopic pattern that incorporates the ancient “ashik" gul with roots as far back as the Neolithic period. How this singular piece has survived in such top-notch condition remains a delightful mystery.
