("New Arrivals Gallery") Exemplifying the infinite creativity of the most inspired rug weavers of the Caucasus Mountains, this high-collectible 19th-century tribal pile rug was clearly inspired by nomadic kilim (flatweave) design. Its artistry echoes the unique aspects of kilim construction and aesthetic, even emulating the slit-weave edges of kilims in the frame around the medallions and the edge of the reserve. The spacious, daringly asymmetrical main border is filled by an idiosyncratic array of breathtakingly creative, kilim-derived rosettes and tribal ornaments. Deeply personal animal motifs are integrated throughout the border and the edges of the field, revealing the weaver's direct, joyful connection with her naturalistic environment. Its extremely good pile condition demonstrated that this treasure has always been treated with great respect.
