("New Arrivals Gallery") The Halvai derivation implying its exceedingly fine weave, this exquisitely woven antique rug was created in the Persian town of Bijar, populated for centuries by highly adroit Kurdish weavers. Its artistic tradition, deeply rooted in the Kurdish aesthetic and brought to its most refined expression on Bijars looms, offers grand medallions and lifelike, stylized floral drawing. A commanding, glowing crimson centerpiece and attendant spandrels hold lovely, tilting, spritely flowers, each as if etched in crystal clarity. The field presents a dainty rendering of the Herati pattern. Instead of the densely drawn version often seen, an intended spaciousness allows the azure background to heighten the rug's overall impact. Its condition is impeccable.
