Twitter Instagram Facebook Pinterest(High-Collectible) ("Best-of-its-Type Sold in 2020”) At almost 200 years old, this extraordinary Bakshaish example of the “Shield” pattern visually illustrates “a timeless moment captured in time” as only this weaving tradition could express it. Intentionally contrasting a rare profusion of glowing saffron as the field color with constant, masterful aqueous hues of cerulean, apple green, and Prussian blue, a masterful painterly quality has been created. Echoing the gentle cadence of color, the design itself possesses a tremendous fluidity. The multiple “shields” are of dissimilar size, shape and tonality, making them seemingly dance across the surface of the field. These latch hook hexagons refer to the Dragon mythology throughout Caucasus and Azerbaijan. The ascending “winged flowers” in the shields are original to Bakshaish carpets and are reminiscent of the phoenix bird as drawn in other early rugs from this region. Learn About This Rug Type
