With a spacious, organically contoured golden fawn reserve an exquisitely balanced medallion consists of an octogram star, a Near Eastern symbol sacred from ancient Sumerian times, suspended on a deep ultramarine background by twining tendrils. Delineated in the mahogany corner spandrels at the top are gracefully decorated lanceolate forms in a precious silvered amethyst hue that is used sparingly to create a delicate chiaroscuro within the undulating vinery in the main border. Wonderfully preserved for well over one-and-one-half centuries, this rug was earnestly cherished in proper storage conditions or displayed on a special wall space with great care.
