It looks to capture elements of Qajar royalty, combining features of Golestan Palace with its ivory minaret—looking windcatchers at its top, a royal crown, edged in morning glory blue, within the sapphire escutcheon-shaped medallion in the center, and two mystical fountains at the bottom evoking their religious beliefs. Most likely originating from a general cartoon that depended on finalization at the loom, this rug captures the creative and technical mastery of drawing using exceedingly fine knotting, a skill for which Heriz weavers were renowned. An overall intended delicacy is achieved from the greatly softened contrasting of un-outlined golden secondary motifs resting upon the field's metallic hues of bronze, copper and brass color zones to luminous effect.
