(High-Collectible) ("New Arrivals Gallery")On the short-list of the most awe-inspiring rugs we have ever experienced from the Bordjalou subgroup of Caucasian Kazak rugs, this mid-19th century gem has been maintained in fabulous heavier-pile condition over some 170 years, most recently by major longtime New England collectors. In a design style in which later examples often have cluttered, repetitive patterns, this early artistic masterwork displays a powerful visage. Playful irregularity in the narrow field of latch hook diamonds and other tiny motifs creates an inner world to the dynamism of the borders. This framing presents a virtuoso rendition of the signature Bordjalou classical border with a reciprocal latch hook meander pattern enclosed by floating latch hook symbols resting on differing, sensitively color combined backgrounds. This rug is truly a doorway into another culture and era. Learn About This Rug Type
