(High-Collectible)
("One of “60 Best-of-Their-Type Rugs Sold in 2022") An arboreal wonderland from northwest Persia, this top collector's piece presents the beloved Persian "Garden of Paradise" motif, expressed with Bakshaish's daring artistic aplomb. This enrapturing Bakshaish rendition of this pattern is like no other, presenting a series of exquisitely stylized weeping willow, cypress, and blossoming Oriental Plane trees that incandesce through an evocative range of jubilant hues. Touchingly and perhaps with a sense of humor, a flock of fantastic pixelated birds roosts in the treetops, an unexpected characterization for this storied genre. At the bottom right, a willow billows out of a pedestal while enigmatic forms hover nearby. The truncated pedestal in the left corner sprouts a golden cypress, esoteric glyph, and candelabra like part of an ancient ruin slowly reclaimed by Mother Nature. Completing this tremendously collectible piece, the rug's frame presents a jovial cubist border of blossom clusters, rosettes, and bright ivory oak leaves, attributed to the ancient village of Karaja that figured prominently during the development of the Bakshaish weaving tradition.
