(High-Collectible)
("Great Lakes Collection") This supremely totemic masterpiece possesses nearly all the virtuoso attributes of the most avidly prized 19th-century Bakshaish village carpets. Within the field, a unique allover pattern is composed of a skillfully balanced combination of large and small motifs that present a visually thrilling iteration of the “Garden of Paradise” concept. Quill-like cypresses are embedded in a geometric medley of blossoming botanical structures. Wonderfully stylized birds perch in between with lone flowers dangling from their beaks. The flashy composition roars to life against a buoyantly luminous sapphire blue field, emphasizing dramatic, skillfully balanced asymmetry and consummately executed crystal-clear patterning. Additional desert hues, many achieved with undyed camelhair, glow with the patina of great age, highlighting and intensifying the impact of every design. The exquisite intensity of its high-contrast color juxtapositions creates a visceral, almost euphoric effect. Overscale forms in the main border continue the bold, masterful expression. Queues representing wild fowl known as ‘murghi’ inhabit the shimmering vermilion minor borders provided with a tempting snack. In a more rarely found large room size, this highly collectible Persian Bakshaish carpet remains in extremely good condition. GLC rugs cannot be purchased using exchange credit.
