This is especially true of pieces with such deep artistic innovation as this clearly one-in-the-world composition. Its immensely imaginative design is one of tremendous experimentation composed around a daringly underscale diamond center medallion and four enormous split palmette forms. Here, other traditional patterns are transmogrified so ingeniously and elementally that they become completely independent derivatives. Right and left symmetry serve to organize the display, all supported by a deep indigo reserve of tremendous visual depth. Thankfully, this piece’s previous owners have preserved it in wonderful, primarily heavier pile condition with complete and original selvage edges and fringe ends.
