FERAHAN SAROUK, West Central Persian
4' 4" x 6' 10" Circa 1900 Price: $13,000
(High-Decorative)
This bejeweled 120-year-old Ferahan Sarouk combines tremendous creativity of design with consummate craftsmanship. The interior patterning within the ivory medallion is the entry point to this piece from which the rest of the inventively articulated melange of wonderfully graphic palmettes, stylized blossoms, and garlands are chromatically and proportionately integrated. On the deepest ink blue field, cinnamon, antique gold, coral, garnet, and deep cerulean are used in ever-changing color combinations. The graceful palmette main border reveals a dexterity wrought from this style's lineage of weaving experience. Throughout, its superb precision of drawing lends tremendous clarity to the composition. Happily, it comes to us with very good pile overall.
